I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! As we now jump into our second week of school our class have begun accept and build upon new responsibilities. The students are now taking responsibility and running morning meeting on their own.

The class was very excited to begin their reading logs this week. Many came in to tell me that they read a book to their parents on their own. While the students are tracking their reading at home we will be forming our own reading log within the classroom. Wednesday, when we finished our first chapter book , we were able to add our first book to the class reading log. Our goal is to fill our graph and reach our  reading goal of 500 books. On Thursday we began the second book in the series called “Mr. Klutz is Nuts”. The students have really enjoyed the silly dynamics of these chapter books and continually ask for more to be read. While the students are listening to the chapter book they are writing about what they are hearing. Sometimes we make predictions, look for clues, or even give our opinion.

During science we have been working diligently on our frog books. The students have been learning more about the similarities and differences between frogs and toads. Through research the students have learned that frogs have teeth on the top of their jaw but toads do not.

The Kindergarten-First class have started to have  specials every day. Tuesday the children had French where they  reviewed familiar words.  They were able to follow instructions in French to create an Eiffel tower.  Library is a new special just added to the school. The entire class was very excited to have the opportunity to check out a book of their choice from our Pembroke library!   This week the books  are staying in the room so that we can look at them in between activities. Next week, the students will be allowed to check out a book and take it home for the week.  Each week, the books will be due on the following Wednesday.  Thursday is Art day!   The class worked together to create a mural of a frog habitat. Be sure to look for it hanging in our hallway.  Next week,  music with Miss Alayne begins!

Please make sure you turn in your permission slips and money for our field trip to the Science Center. Everyone is very excited. Remember forms are due on Monday September 10.

Have a great weekend!
