May is here and the end of school is only a few weeks away!  What a wonderful year!   We will miss Miss Kim and Miss Robyn but we know they will visit often.  Thank you for allowing Pembroke Kids to participate in the life of your child and family. We truly appreciate and enjoy the opportunity!

Thank you to all Pembroke Kids’ parents that participated in Muffins with Mom and Donuts with Dad. Your children were thrilled to have you spend time in class with them.

Preschool Progress Reports and Kindergarten student-led Conferences: The end of year preschool progress reports will be sent home May 24th and May 25th. Graduating preschoolers and those children leaving Pembroke Kids will also receive their portfolio at this time. The kindergarteners are hard at work preparing for student-led conferences to mark the end of their school year. The children have selected what they feel is their very best work for this conference. Miss Krista asks kindergarten parents to arrange a time to come in for their child’s conference. She will email parents with details.

Book Fair: Also, thank you to all the families who supported the book fair!  Pembroke Kids expects to receive about 50% of the gross sales!  We’re very excited because last year we were able to purchase 2 listening centers, one for kindergarten and one for preschool.  We’re anticipating adding similar equipment this year!  Thank you again and Happy Reading!

Class T-Shirts: Each year the children draw a self-portrait and we arrange the drawings, by class, on colorful t-shirts. On the back of the shirt is the Pembroke Logo. An example from last year is hanging outside the office. The drawings are complete and at the print shop.

The shirts are 100% cotton and are available in Youth Small, Youth Medium, and Youth Large as well as adult sizes, Small through Extra Large.  The cost per shirt is $12.50.  Deadline for orders is Thursday, May 19, 2011.  The shirts will be delivered Monday, May 23rd.

Memorial Day Parade: Pembroke Kids has marched in the Avon Lake Memorial Day Parade for the past several years.  The one mile route is the perfect length for preschoolers (and their parents).  The parade begins at the Avon Lake High school North Parking lot and ends at Veterans Park on the lake. Why not join the festivities?  All that you have to provide is a wagon or stroller for your preschooler.  Pembroke Kids will provide our school banner and candy to toss to the on-lookers. Children love the parade! It is a way for us to give back to the community, and honor those who have served in the Armed Forces.

The best place to park is in the South Lot of Avon Lake High School off Avon Belden/Rt 83. Walk to the North parking lot behind the High School and join our Pembroke Kids group at 9:30 A.M.  The parade begins at 10:00 A.M. sharp and lasts less than one hour.  Hope to see you there!

End of School Activities: Dates and Times

The last day of school is Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the end of the day.

Kindergarten End of Year Activities

Field Day: Outdoor afternoon festivities will be held Tuesday, May 31st.

Kindergarten Celebration is Thursday, June 2 in the Wiggle Room beginning at 1:30 P.M.  Kindergarten families and extended families are invited.  Refreshments will be served.

Preschool Graduation and All School Picnic will be held, rain or shine, at Weiss Park Friday, June 3rd from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Weiss Park is located in Avon Lake at the corner of Webber Road and Moore Road. It is a family friendly park with wonderful playground structures.  We have reserved both pavilions near the playground. Restrooms are also nearby. Bring a picnic dinner and your extended family to celebrate your preschooler’s accomplishments.  There will be a very brief ceremony to congratulate them and wish them well as they continue their educational journey.

Preschool Graduation is meant to celebrate the accomplishments of our preschool students as they leave our community to attend kindergarten.  We wish all our students and families much success and happiness.

Summer Camp: Have you made plans to attend one or more weeks of Camp? There are still a few spots available in the preschool camp. Kindergarten Prep Camp is almost full, so hurry if you’re thinking about signing up. And don’t forget those older brothers and sisters! Only a few weeks have openings left. See Steve or Andrea for details.

Community Supported Agriculture: Join us again for the 2011 Growing Season – June through October, and receive Fresh Produce delivered weekly to Pembroke Kids! Please call the school office for more information, or visit http://www.coveredbridgegardens.com on the Web.
