The year is flying past so quickly! There are many exciting events coming up in the next month to put on your calendar. Our all school field trip to Lake Erie Nature and Science Center is on Thursday, April 22nd. Permission slips were sent home before Spring Break with information about the trip. Donuts with Dad is on April 28th and 29th. Dads are invited in to the classroom to play and have a special treat from 11 to 11:45 for the morning class and 2:15 to 3:00 for the afternoon class. Muffins with Mom is on May 5th and 6th from 11 to 11:45 for the morning class and 2:15 to 3:00 for the afternoon class. We look forward to seeing all of our families at these special events!

We just finished a very informative 2-week theme about outer space. The children were very excited by our “gravity free kitchen” where all the dishes floated as well as dressing up like an astronaut in a space pack and helmet. The children pretended to move and float around in space or ride in a rocket ship to the moon. We were very impressed with their creativity and pretend play.

During the two weeks, we focused on naming the planets and decided to make Paper Mache models. The children used their measuring skills to make the Paper Mache mixture and worked as a group to cover all the balloons. The children used their observational skills while the Paper Mache dried and they noticed how it hardened. We decided to research what the planets looked like using books, photos, and posters making sure to use our visual discrimination skills specifically about sizes and colors of the planets. The children used their fine motor skills to paint the planets. Please look for their planets hanging in the school, they are very proud of their work.

We also made constellations out of mini marshmallows. We practiced counting 1 to 1 up to 15. After the children counted out their marshmallows, they used their imaginations to create a picture with the marshmallows and we worked on representational art. The children practiced their fine motor skills by gluing the marshmallows and writing a label for their creation. We worked on pre-reading skills by sounding out the word and writing from left to right.

Upcoming themes will be Frogs and Ponds. We are hopping right along into April!
